Fluxus As Architecture Series:
PROTOTYPING FLUXUS PREFAB SYSTEM
SEPTEMBER 4TH – OCTOBER 25TH, 2014
Fluxus Foundation is pleased to announce Fluxus As Architecture Series: PROTOTYPING FLUXUS PREFAB SYSTEM version 1.0, presenting a Well-Developed and Ready-to-Build Prototype, in the foundation exhibition space at 454 W 19th St., New York, NY, 10011.
Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem.
Entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity. — William of Ockham.
Fluxus Prefab System was conceived not by fancy but rational approach, like a mathematical problem. It pursues economy not in the sense of material stinginess but in the scientific sense of Occam’s Razor to Express Essential Forms and Ideas.
The essence of Fluxus Prefab System is a Universal Panel containing multi-functions of structure, enclosure and service. Accordingly, all components with a single function are to be eliminated. To be specific, elements like windows and doors present where wall is absent. Their frames are likewise replaced by a structural panel edge for that purpose, thus avoiding redundant manufacture and wasting materials. The number of components is reduced by using finished structural panel faces, thus no need for such nonstructural surfacing materials as floor tiles, ceiling tiles, plaster, paint and mouldings. As a result, Fluxus Prefab System can be fabricated with a minimum number of components, a simple method of fabrication and construction and simple tooling requirements, allowing for Greater Adaptability to Automation.
Fluxus Prefab System is a Fully Integrated and Scalable Building Technology that could be used for residential, commercial, institutional and industrial purposes in various environments at low production costs. With Occam’s rationale, its concise design composes Spatial Beauty and Affordable Luxury.
On view:
- 12 works on paper Prototyping Fluxus Prefab System Version 1.0 (2014), showing system’s spatial mechanism through kaleidoscopic perspectives;
- video installation Prototyping Fluxus Prefab System Version 1.0 (2014), presenting visual syntax of the system through a sequence of top views;
- wall installation High-rise (2014), a diagrammatic manifesto that argues for an innovative smart system of prefabrication, modularization and mass-production.
- Fluxus Publication Fluxus As Architecture Box First Edition No. 1 / 5 (2014), a collection of historical and recent research materials of architectural legacy of Fluxus.
Fluxus As Architecture Series is curated by Harry Stendhal, chairman of Fluxus Foundation, and Fanyu Lin, architect at Fluxus Foundation.
The exhibition will be on display from September 4th – October 25th, 2014.
